Probability of a single protein forming by chance

Have scientists been able to create long-chain proteins? Long chain proteins are formed inside a cell (when there is already life) or by a machine created by intelligent humans. Furthermore, these machines don’t make protein molecules from scratch. They buy amino acids from companies that extract them from living systems. There is no observable spontaneous process that can generate long chains of amino acids, even by a gradual process of building from short to long.
